Maryfield College

Poetry Aloud Competition

Maryfield College achieved great success at the recent regional heats of The Poetry Aloud Competition which took place in The National Library of Ireland, Kildare Street, Dublin. Five schools took part in this heat with the judges selecting two students from each of the three categories (Junior, Intermediate and Senior) to go forward to the semi-final heats on the 17th and 18th of November. Four of the six places were awarded to Maryfield students: Jane Keyes (T/Y), Lorna Lawless (2L), Leah Whelan (2K) and

Nina Roe (1R).

The prescribed poems in this year’s competition reflect on 1916, World War 1 and also include the work of contemporary Irish poets. All nineteen students articulated beautifully from memory their prescribed and chosen poems.
