School Trip To Italy

At the beginning of the Easter holidays, a group of our 4th and 5th year students travelled to Italy on an unforgettable school trip that combined culture, geography and history with hands‑on experiences and lasting memories.

The trip began in Rome, where students enjoyed a guided walking tour of the city’s most famous landmarks, immersing themselves in the history of the Eternal City. From there, they stepped back in time in Pompeii, exploring remarkably preserved streets and buildings buried in ash for nearly 2,000 years. A highlight for many was the challenging but rewarding hike up Mount Vesuvius, where students reached the summit of the volcano and took in breathtaking views across the Bay of Naples.

In Naples, students explored both the vibrant streets above ground and the fascinating underground aqueducts, uncovering layers of history hidden beneath the city. Along the Amalfi Coast, students visited an olive oil and mozzarella farm, where they learned about traditional food production in the Mezzogiorno region and sampled local produce, bringing Leaving Certificate Geography to life in a meaningful and memorable way.

The final evening was spent at Mamy Lucia Cookery School, where students learned how to make authentic Italian pizza before enjoying a lively evening of traditional tarantella music and dancing. The trip concluded with a final farewell to the Amalfi Coast before the journey home to Ireland.

Students returned home with a deeper appreciation of Italian culture and geography, along with memories of a truly enriching experience.
